Read < 1 minute

Algeria’s President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika has won a fourth term in office in the just concluded presidential Elections, by a landslide taking more than 81 percent of the vote. The 77year old leader who suffered from a stroke last year casted his vote in a wheelchair on Thursday. A few hours after the announcement Algerians took to the streets of the capital Algiers to celebrate. Six opposition parties boycotted Thursday’s vote calling a sham while Bouteflika’s main rival Ali Benflis only managed to garner 12 percent of the vote.
