Police in South Africa are offering a reward of R100,000 or 8,000 dollars for anyone with information of the wherebouts of the two men who mugged an SABC crew as they prepared to do a live broadcast.

The crew was outside Millpark Hospital preparing itself for a live TV coverage of the arrival of the Zambian president Edgar Lungu for   specialist treatment on Tuesday night.

SABC’s contributing editor  Vuyo Mvoko,  was robbed  in full view of television cameras as he prepared to do a live cross over.

Mvoko’s cellphone as well as the cellphones of his colleagues were taken by the two suspects who appeared completely oblivious to the fact that they were being recorded.

Police say any information brought forward to help with their identification would help speed up the investigation.

Meanwhile, there has been widespread criticism of the incident.

The South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) says it’s concerning that the suspects brazenly ignored the TV camera and made no attempt to hide their identities.

The Communications Department has also condemned the incident.
