Women in Egypt have started taxi services for women only. Pink Taxi services came into play after a recent research stated that at least 93 percent of women in Cairo face harassment.
Driving being a male dominated area in Egypt the taxi service trains the drivers for two months firstly how to drive and prepare them psychologically on how to operate on the road. The business has picked up very fast, with concerns of harassment being brushed aside as male drivers support the initiative and respect the women drivers on the road.
“The demand is much more than our supply, more than the cars we have, by next week we will add cars to our company.” Said Reem Fawzy, Owner, Pink Taxi
The Taxi service offers women a safe and private environment that male drivers cannot give, with internal cameras, audio recording and a button to stop the taxi whenever according to Reem Fawzy.
