Palestinian ambassador to the U.N. expects emergency Security Council meeting

Palestinian ambassador to United Nations Riyad Mansour says he expects an Emergency meeting of UN Security Council possibly in next 24 hours following the killing of at least 41 Palestinians along the Gaza border by Israeli forces.
The angry protesters were demonstrating against the United States opening of its embassy in Jerusalem.
U.S. President Donald Trump in December 2018 announced his recognition of Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel, and instructed the State Department to begin the process of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
This move drew huge criticism from Palestine and the Arab League, who demanded that the U.S. renounce the pledge.
Trump however said it was a move meant to bring peace to Israel and Palestine.
“I am determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” he said.
He added that he had judged “this cause of action to be in the best interests of the United States of America and the pursuit of peace between Israel and the Palestinians.”
Israeli troops have killed 45 Palestinians since the demonstrations began on March 30, according to Palestinian health officials, while no Israeli casualties have been reported.
The protests are scheduled to culminate on Tuesday, the day Palestinians mourn as the “Nakba” or “Catastrophe” when, in 1948, hundreds of thousands of them were driven out of their homes.
