Number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria exceeds 2,000

Nigeria confirmed 238 new cases of the COVID-19 late Friday, the highest number reported in a single day so far in the country, bringing the total number to 2,170.

According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) which gave the update in a statement, the new cases were recorded in 21 states and the capital, Abuja.

Lagos recorded the highest number of cases in the country with 1,006 positive cases.

After the epidemic hit Nigeria on Feb. 27, the country took drastic measures to curb the spread of the virus in the most populous African country.

On April 27, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari announced a phased and gradual easing of lockdown measures effective in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and two states of Lagos and Ogun from May 4, as the country continues to fight the COVID-19.

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) also reported 68 deaths and 351 recoveries.
