Nigerian president calls for investigation into accidental drone strike
Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered an investigation into what has become one of the country’s deadliest military bombing accidents.
In a tragic incident on Sunday, a Nigerian army drone strike unintentionally killed at least 85 people in northwest Kaduna State.
The incident occurred during a Muslim festival in Tudun Biri village. An additional 66 people were hurt.
In a statement, President Tinubu described the incident as “very unfortunate, disturbing, and painful.”
The airstrike sparked widespread concern over the conduct of military operations and the safety of innocent civilians in the region.
Nigeria’s armed forces frequently use airstrikes in their campaign against bandit militias in the northwest and northeast regions, where militant activities have been ongoing for over a decade.
