A global survey by a leading consulting firm has found Brazilians spend more time online than anyone else in the world. CCTV Africa’s Paul Cabral reported this story from Sao Paulo.
The study was conducted by consulting firm ATKearney and found that Brazilians are the most addicted to the Internet, with 51 percent saying they were online “all day long”, followed by 37 percent of Nigerians, and 35 percent of South Africans. The global average was 28 percent. In the United States, 25 percent said they were online all day.
Mike Prado, co-host of a popular late night talk radio show in Brazil is just one example of a constantly connected Brazilian. The 22-year-old said he doesn’t go anywhere without his smartphone.
The report attributes the Internet surge in some developing countries to a younger population, the fast growth in smart phones, and greater access to technology.
“If we look at the younger generations, they make decisions based on what’s happening within their social networks. They check Facebook, they check LinkedIn, they check Twitter. So what happens in these networks is actually one of the things that most influences their decisions,” Priscila Seki, a management consultant at ATKearney said.
