Nairobi football academy scores both on and off the pitch

A sports academy in Nairobi, Kenya is using football to change the lives of young boys and girls.
The Academy of Korogocho(Acakoro) received global recognition when it beat teams from European academies including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
The football academy is a non-profit organisation that operates in the Korogocho slums in the country’s capital and targets young boys and girls living in surrounding areas and has been operating in the slums for six years now.
It was a brain child of an Austrian NGO by the name Hope for the Future which built three schools — two primary schools, one secondary school — in Korogocho before founding the academy, the Daily Nation reports.
The academy is under the guidance of development coach Stefan Köglberger and his wife Eldona who are both Austrian football experts but permanently based in Korogocho.
Acakoro has a number of players within the different national age group teams. Some players are members of the national teams.
CGTN’s Edmond Nyabola has more on Acakoro’s success, both on and off the pitch.
