Musongati will play in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup after winning Burundi’s premier knockout football competition on Saturday.

Musongati defeated Rukinzo 5-4 on post-match penalties in the final of the Burundian President’s Cup at the Stade Urukondo.

The match had ended 1-1 in normal time after Yves Kireko gave Musongati the lead in the second minute only for Derrick Mukombozi to equalize six minutes later.

The match would end that way with no more goals with Musongati going on to successfully convert all its penalties while Rukinzo missed once from the spot through goalkeeper Ismail Wilondja.

The win sees Musongati end the season on a high after they slipped up late on in their pursuit of the Burundi Primus Ligue allowing Le Messager de Ngozi to claim the title.

However, for Rukinzo, it was second time unlucky as they also lost last year’s final 3-1 to Aigle Noir, who they defeated in this year’s semifinal.
