Morocco will host Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup duel that pits Barcelona against Sevilla, the first time the match will be played at a neutral venue and on a single match.
Previous editions had a two-legged games played at both home stadiums of the teams involved.
The Spanish Super Cup is the official curtain raiser of the new La Liga season and is contested by the reigning La Liga Champions and reigning Copa Del Rey winners.
Since Barcelona won both titles last season, Sevilla qualified on the basis of being the Copa Del Rey runners-up.
The Spanish giants will face off at the Stade Ibn Batouta in Morocco’s city of Tangier, giving Moroccans a chance to watch stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and many more in action.
Ahead of that game however, Sevilla threated a boycott should Barcelona field more than three non-European Union players for the match.
Only three non-EU players are allowed in each La Liga match-day squad.
The Spanish football federation however sought to clear the matter, saying that there were no restrictions on non-EU players as it classed the game as “not professional”.
