Moroccan ground-based air traffic controllers have announced a 15 day partial strike set for Wednesday, October 30.
In a statement posted on the Airports National Syndicate Facebook page, controllers expressed their dissatisfaction with the Moroccan Airport Authority and called for the reforms.
They claim that the Authority’s administrative decisions have affected them negatively in terms of working environment and conditions. Traffic controllers also say they are understaffed and also work in dangerous conditions than other employees.
To put pressure on the airports authority, workers will restrict the number of planes by allowing the takeoff and landing of only one airplane every 30 minutes into Moroccan airports.
This decision is expected to cause massive disruptions at Moroccan airports with at least 10 planes landing in Morocco every five minutes. The partial strike may cause delays of up to 10 hours.
If their demands are not met before the end of the 15 days partial strike, air traffic controllers will call a national strike but will, however, continue to provide their services to state airplanes, medical aircraft, aircraft in an emergency, and national military aircraft.
In case of non-compliance to their demands, Moroccan airports may experience a full shutdown of air traffic services.
