Mercedes wrapped up their seventh consecutive constructors’ championship on Sunday after their cars finished first and second at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy.

Record-setting Lewis Hamilton won his third-straight race and his eighth of the season so far, beating his compatriot Valtteri Bottas.

Bottas started the race on pole position ahead of Hamilton, but could not convert it into a win as the Briton took the lead on lap 20.

With his win, Hamilton also set a new F1 record for most wins, having now claimed 93 victories, two more than former great Michael Schumacher managed.

“Guys, what an incredible achievement from all of you,” said Lewis Hamilton on team radio after his win.

“I’m so proud of all of you.”

Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo took the final podium position after former teammate Max Verstappen’s Red Bull crashed with 12 laps to go.

Ahead of the race, F1 fans were disappointed by an announcement by organizers that Italian authorities had barred spectators from attending the race due to the surging number of coronavirus cases.
