In a surprise move on the last day of the Congress of South African Trade Unions’ (COSATU) national elective congress, some unions called on the federation to return it’s largest affiliate, the metal workers union, back into the fold.

The metal workers union was expelled for bringing the labour federation into disrepute. The motion raised some temperatures at the congress.
