Madonna’s children hospital wing, named after her daughter Mercy James adopted from Malawi, at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Malawi’s city of Blantyre will be officially opened on Tuesday next week according to Nyasa Times.

The Mercy James Institute for Paediatric Surgery and Intensive Care construction was completed last week after two years. Built with funds from Madonna’s charity, Raising Malawi, will be officially opened in July 11th.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has joined me on this unbelievable journey. What started out as a dream for Malawi and her children have become a reality, and we couldn’t have done it without your support,” said Madonna. Adding, “It’s important for me to make sure all my children from the country maintain a strong connection to their birth nation, and equally important to show them that together as humans we have the power to change the world for the better.”

The wing has been built in collaboration with the Malawian Ministry of Health and will enable the hospital to double the number of surgeries for children and will provide critical pre-operative and post-operative care, according to Nyasa Times.

“The wing will help Queen Elizabeth hospital double the number of surgeries performed on children each year and will increase the chance of survival after critical surgeries. In addition to serving more children, this new facility will become a training center of excellence for Southern Africa, with more local doctors acquiring the skills needed to perform pediatric surgery,” Raising Malawi is quoted to say by E news.
