An Egyptian archaeological mission uncovered a limestone-made coffin in Quesna city of Menouifia province, the country’s Ministry of Antiquities said in a statement on Monday.

“Two mummies were found inside the two-meter-long and 60-centimeter-wide coffin, but in bad conditions,” said Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), in the statement.

The team discovered the coffin in the digging work at the northwestern section of Quesna monuments area at the Nile Delta, the statement added.

The coffin, including the mummies, was moved from the site to the Antiquities Ministry’s warehouses for restoration, it added.

Other golden plates, bronze coins and three small statues were discovered near the coffin.
