Libya registers one new COVID-19 case

The Libyan National Center for Disease Control on Friday announced one new COVID-19 case, bringing the tally in the country to 49 with 11 recoveries and one death.

The center said in a statement earlier Friday that it tested 65 suspected samples, of which 64 were negative and one positive.

The UN-backed government on Wednesday declared a 24-curfew in the country to fight COVID-19 pandemic starting on Friday and lasting for 10 days.

Libyan authorities have taken a series of measures against COVID-19, including closing airports, border crossings, mosques and educational institutions, and banning mass gatherings and movements among cities.

Libya reported its first COVID-19 case on March 24.
