Kenyan soldiers kill 5 al Shabaab militants following attack on SSF camp in Somalia

Kenya Defence Forces soldiers on Saturday killed five al Shabaab militants during a foiled attack on Somali Security Forces (SSF) stationed in Bilis Qooqani.

The KDF unit operating under AMISOM, dispatched a special platoon of soldiers to assist their Somali counterparts following a distress call.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, close to 20 al Shabaab militants attacked the SSF station from three different directions at around 12:30am.

“After the gunfight, KDF troops had killed five al Shabaab terrorists, they also recovered five AK47 rifles and several rounds of ammunition,” the ministry said in a statement.

Kenya said it would continue to work closely with Somali Security Forces to restore peace and educe the threat posed by al Shabaab in the region.

“Additionally, KDF will continue to build capacity of SSF as well as assist them in stabilization, reconciliation and peace building in Somalia,” the ministry said.
