Kenyan soldiers foil Al-Shabaab attack on construction camp
Kenyan soldiers on Saturday repulsed an attack by suspected al-Shabab terrorists who tried to force their way into a construction camp at Milihoi area, a renowned terror hotspot along the coastal Lamu-Garsen road.
Lamu county police commander Moses Murithi said on Sunday the camp belongs to the H-Young company that is currently undertaking the construction of the 135km stretch road.
Murithi said a group of over ten armed militants was however successfully repulsed by the Kenya Defence Force (KDF) soldiers in a daring raid at around 9 am.
“There was an attempted al-Shabab attack at Milihoi area by about ten heavily armed militants, just a few meters from the H-Young construction camp. They attempted to gain entry into the camp after which there was a fire exchange before the militants were subdued and repulsed by our able KDF soldiers. They fled into the forest but the situation is contained now,” Murithi told Xinhua.
He reiterated that enough security personnel had been deployed to pursue the militants while at the same time appealed to members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons or those with suspicious wounds.
This is the second attempt by the militants to attack the H-Young construction camp this year.
A similar attempt by about four heavily armed terrorists to gain entry into the camp was thwarted by KDF soldiers on February 9.
