Kenya replaces its nominee for EAC Secretary General position

Read < 1 minute

Kenya has replaced its nominee for the East African Community (EAC) Secretary General position.

Caroline Mwende Mueke was replaced by Veronica Mueni Nduva before the swearing-in ceremony expected to take place on Tuesday, April 16.

Kenya’s EAC Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza communicated the change in a Monday, April 15 letter to EAC Council of Ministers chairperson Deng Alor Kuol. However, no reason was given for the sudden change.

Nduva is currently a principal secretary in the ministry of public service.

Occupants of the office serve for five years, and it is rotational among members states. Nduva’s nomination would have to be approved by the Summit of EAC Heads of State.
