Kenya: Al Shabaab militants kill abducted Mandera chief

A Mandera chief who was  kidnapped early Thursday morning by Al-shabaab has been killed.

Arabia chief Muktar Maalim, was travelling to Mandera by public means when he was kidnapped by a group of men who were heavily armed.

The kidnappers killed the chief after failing to receive a ransom of 4 million Kenya shillings.

Mandera County Police Commander Job Boronjo confirmed the incident, saying the body identified as Mkutar Otieno was found in Badhere area with bullet wounds. The vehicle the gang had also carjacked was missing.

Chief Maalim was abducted at a spot which is about five minutes from the Kenya-Somalia borders. Other passengers in the bus he was travelling in were unharmed.
