Illegal Construction along the Nile Delta

Read < 1 minute

Egypt will destroy all illegally erected buildings along the Nile and its tributaries. That’s according to the country’s Water and Irrigation Ministry, in order to protect canals needed to grow food. However, the demolitions are expected to put the buildings’ owners in direct conflict with the government. Farmers in the Nile Delta have been constructing buildings or selling their land rather than farm, and according to experts, that’s a recipe for long-term damage.
