Former US Secretary of State and former First Lady, Hillary Clinton has finally announced her bid for the 2016 presidency in the United States.
Its after two years of speculation on weather Clinton would declare her candidacy or not.
Hillary has already set out for a tour of key states, at the start of her campaign to become the first woman US president.
She is taking a road trip to meet small groups of voters in Iowa, having announced her bid for the Democratic presidential nomination on Sunday.
“I’m running for president,” she said with a smile near the end of a two-minute video released just after 3 p.m. US time.
“Everyday Americans need a champion. And I want to be that champion,” Mrs. Clinton said. “So I’m hitting the road to earn your vote – because it’s your time. And I hope you’ll join me on this journey.”
Mrs Clinton’s team said she would spend the next few weeks building up grassroots support in the early Democratic primary states.
Her first rally, to officially kick off her campaign, is not expected until mid-May. But her trip to Iowa is to be a “listening tour” where Mrs Clinton will meet voters at low-key events.
Later this week, she is expected to meet groups of students, teachers and small business owners.
Pundits say the announcement will begin what many see as one of the least contested races, without an incumbent, for the Democratic presidential nomination in recent history.
It could also be the first time a woman captures a major party’s nomination in US.
