Heat wave expected in Botswana early next week
Botswana’s meteorological services department issued a heat wave warning on Friday, as hot weather is expected in the country early next week.
Keemenao Sampisi, spokesperson for the department, said “temperatures are expected to reach highs of between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius,” and to decrease on Oct. 21 over most parts of the country except in some districts, including Ngamiland, Ghanzi and Kgalagadi.
Sampisi said the extreme temperatures are due to the persistence of a hot northerly continental air mass or wind flow which originates from the Angolan low.
The department warned people to take precautions which include drinking more water and avoiding spending too much time under the sun, among others.
Extremely hot conditions are a common occurrence in Botswana during October every year.
