Head-on collision kills 18, injures 15 in Tanzania

At least 18 people were killed and 15 others seriously injured on Wednesday in a head-on collision between a mini-bus and a truck in Mkuranga, about 50 km north of Tanzania’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam.
The collision between the Dar es Salaam-bound mini-bus and a truck happened in Kilimahewa village, said Onesmo Lyanga, police commander of Rufiji Special Zone in Coast region.
The injured were rushed to a nearby health center for first aid treatment before being referred to a major hospital for specialized treatment, Lyanga said.
A statement from the Directorate of Presidential Communication at State House said President John Magufuli expressed sadness over the loss of so many lives and prayed for quick recovery of the injured.
