Hadji Baba Ammi take office as minister of Finance
New Minister of Finance Hadji Baba Ammi has taken office Sunday replacing Abderrahmane Benkhalfa, following the partial cabinet reshuffle conducted Saturday by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
During the handover ceremony, Baba Ammi, who was Deputy Minister to the Minister of Finance, in charge of Budget and Forecasting since May 2014, hailed the efforts made by his predecessor, adding that “a very important work has been carried out since a year with Benkhalfa, who contributed to the modernization of the sector of Finance.”
Baba Ammi underlined the key role that the Ministry of Finance has to play in the new model of economic growth, approved during the tripartite (Government-Central Union-employers) meeting, held last week.
“We will play a key role in the new model over the next three years, in terms of budget consolidation, so as to enable our country to become an emerging economy by 2030,” he said during the ceremony, which was attended by central directors of his ministries and CEOs of banks and insurance companies.
