Liverpool began warming up for the defense of their Premier League title and another assault on the Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 win over German side VfB Stuttgart at the Sportplatz Langau on Saturday in Austria.

Roberto Firmino got Liverpool off the mark in the 15th minute when he converted Curtis Jones’ cross.

Naby Keita then doubled Liverpool’s lead five minutes before halftime after Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah’s pass was flicked on by Firmino for the Guinean to score.

Keita, Salah and his Senegalese counterpart Sadio Mane were unable to add to Liverpool’s tally as they were all taken off at halftime.

Rhian Brewster added a third midway through the second half to seal victory for Liverpool in their first preseason game.

Liverpool next plays Austrian champions RB Salzburg on Tuesday. Salzburg boasts a strong African contingent with the likes of Zambian duo Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu, Malian Sekou Koita, Cameroonian Jerome Onguene and Ghanaian Majeed Ashimeru.

Liverpool is set to begin the defence of the Premier League title against newly-promoted Leeds United on September 12.
