Read < 1 minute

The Greek government has pledged to help create shelter on the mainland to deal with the influx of illegal immigrants arriving on the shores of its islands.

The decision was made at an emergency cabinet meeting after about 1200 migrants and refugees arrived in Greece between last Friday and Tuesday this week.

The Greek government is also seeking additional buildings and land to set up the much needed centres to accommodate the new arrivals.

Greece which is a key entry point into Europe has demanded more money from the European Union to settle the migrant issue.

The country is also home to many Asylum seekers from war-torn countries such as Europe and Afghanistan
