Ghana to work with the Ethiopian Airlines to revive its National carrier
Ghana will be working with the Ethiopia’s flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines, to re-establish its own National carrier.
The West African nation came to the decision after the Ethiopian carrier expressed interest in assisting. The CEO of the Ethiopian Airlines made a call to the Ghanaian Minister of Aviation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah to express his airlines interest in reviving the Ghana Airways, according to a report by Ghana News Agency.
Ethiopian Airways CEO said that every country in Africa needs a home carrier since aviation is a strategic asset for any country, adding “We insist that home carrier must be run professionally.
Ghanaian Minister praised Ethiopian Airlines for thriving very well in the continent. Ethiopian flies to more destinations in Africa than any other carrier and is one of the fastest-growing companies in the industry, and the largest on the African continent.
Ghana is waiting on cabinet approval before it can start the modalities for the new National Airline. The West African county’s government is aiming at making Ghana the aviation hub for Africa, and also has intention of establishing an Aviation academy to train pilots and cabin crew to equip the ailine.
The Minister said that the government could learn a lot for Ethiopia’s South to South Cooperation, adding “ Ghana will, therefore, tap from the rich resource experience of the Airline to establish ours.”
