The death toll from Wednesday’s explosion at a petrol station in Ghana’s capital, Accra,  is said to be more than 170.

That number is expected to rise as recovery efforts continue.

President John Dramani Mahama visited the scene early Thursday , calling the incident “catastrophic”.
