Four Kenyan athletes with disability left stranded at Nairobi airport
Four Kenyan athletes with disability learned at Nairobi airport a few minutes before their Tuesday morning flight to Congo that their air tickets and places in the games had been cancelled.
The disability sport athletes had been selected, kitted and accredited for the games. Or so they thought.
In a statement, the deputy head of the Kenyan delegation Anthony Kariuki said that the events had been removed from the games because of lack of quorum.
The athletes however differ, saying the events programme does not indicate any cancellation or withdrawals. Kenya had sent an advanced team of officials to Congo in late August.
Disability sport starts on Sunday at the African games. Until then, these athletes have gone back to training, vowing to stay put, awaiting confirmation of their flight to Congo Brazzaville.
