The Vodacom Bulls on Thursday announced the signing of utility forward Elrigh Louw from PRO14 side the Southern Kings.

The Bulls said in a statement that the signing of the former Junior Springbok flanker will strengthen its loose forward stocks with the start of the domestic rugby season edging closer.

“We are delighted that Elrigh has agreed to join the Bulls Family as he is a young flanker with a bright future. He has proven in the Guinness PRO14 that he can compete against the some of world rugby’s finest players, and not only has he held his own but excelled while at it,” Director of rugby Jake White said.

Meanwhile, South African Super Rugby side the Cell C Sharks received a boost after two more players committed their futures to the club.

Fullback Aphelele Fassi and lock Ruben van Heerden signed three and two-year contract extensions with the Durban-based franchise.

Prior to this, the club had been periodically announcing over the last couple of weeks that it had retained the services of 13 players as the management finalizes preparations for the resumption of competitive action in South Africa.

A majority of those 13 players (nine) had signed on with the Durban-based franchise until 2022 while the rest had signed until 2023.

South Africa is still organizing details regarding the launch of a seven-team domestic rugby competition having received approval from the government for a return to competitive action under strict COVID-19 regulations.

The competition was originally slated to involve eight teams but the Southern Kings withdrew from all planned competition for the remainder of 2020 due to financial challenges.
