Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter has warned that money risks ruining the sport, urging stakeholders to ensure the game is accessible to every fan.
“People already pay a lot to get into the stadium. Prices are getting higher and higher, because clubs need more money,” Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Wochenende quotes Blatter.
“That is a bad sign. Football must remain accessible,” he said.
Blatter was ousted from the helm of the world football governing body in 2015 after he was found guilty of corruption charges.
He has always maintained his innocence and even threatened to sue the organization and its new leader Gianni Infantino for tarnishing his reputation.
Asked if he would drop his planned lawsuit against Infantino if his collection of luxury watches, which he left at FIFA’s offices, were returned to him, he said: “The watches are of lesser importance. What is important to me is my moral rehabilitation.”
The 83-year-old was banned from “all football activities.”
