Fishermen raise concern over Lake Victoria’s fish stocks

Read < 1 minute

In the past 20 years, Lake Victoria has seen a boom in fishing companies and fishermen.

But stocks are depleting by the day.

Fishermen say that stocks in Africa’s biggest lake are becoming so depleted that they fear there may be no fish left in years to come.

Small-scale fishermen on Lake Victoria in East Africa told CCTV News that a boom in big companies in the last 20 years has created tens of thousands of jobs – but could also threaten the lake’s future.

Lake Victoria may be bigger than Scotland, but some experts believe that in 20 years’ time – there will be no fish at all.

CCTV’s Dan Ashby has the story.
