The scientific world has been abuzz since the country announced a newly discovered species related to humans called Homo Naledi, the fossils were found in a burial chamber near Johannesburg.

Usually fossils of ancient hominids are found in fragments, so the discovery of so many of them in one place is an extraordinary one. It’s hoped Homo Naledi will bring the world closer to understanding our ancient past.

Of course Homo Naledi is just the latest in a long line of human fossil discoveries. Clementine Logan takes a look at some of the earlier findings of our human ancestors.
