Read < 1 minute

The European Union announced cancellation of the election observation mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo on November 29.

“Due to technical constraints beyond the control of the EU, we are forced to cancel the EU election observation mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC),” the EU said in a statement on Wednesday.

DR Congo’s minister of communications expressed regret over the move but said they would ensure the election is transparent.

The EU is exploring other options like having experts monitoring the elections from Kinshasa.

Local civil groups and the Catholic Church will observe the elections scheduled for December 20.
