Ethiopia’s movie ‘Lamb’  became the first Ethiopian film to be screened as an “Official Selection” at the Cannes Film Festival.

It is also the country’s official entry for the Oscars next year.

‘Lamb’ explores issues of displacement and loss, while contrasting these concerns against breathtaking landscapes of Ethiopia, inside traditional homes, and against changing urban settings.

It received positive ratings and last month it began showing in Ethiopian theatres, where it was well received.

It tells the story of a young boy, whose pet lamb provides a source of solace amid upheavals at home.

The BBC spoke to the film’s two main young stars, 14-year-old Rediat Amare, who plays Ephraim, and 16-year-old Kidist Siyum, who plays Tsion, his rebellious cousin.
