Egyptian president speaks of his government’s achievements in State of the Nation address

Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al Sisi addressed the nation on Friday evening, and notably spoke about his term in office so far, what has been achieved and the challenges ahead.

Sisi  was elected in 2014 after the ouster of Mohamed Morsy and the now outlawed Muslim brotherhood.

Immediately after his election, Sisi embarked on an economic reform program.

Reducing subsidies has not been popular with Egyptians, but he said its inevitable .

Sisi highlighted the multiple mega projects achieved in 2 years. Projects such as the Suez canal, roads system , cultivating 4 million feddans, housing for the poor , electricity and the new Capital. He says these projects employ millions and are improving the people’s standard of living

Terror however, remains a main threat to Egypt and the region. The president said Egypt’s military is gaining ground in the war on terrorism.
