Egypt star Salah to return to Liverpool for treatment
Egyptian Football Association (EFA) confirmed that Mohamed Salah will return to England for treatment after he suffered a hamstring injury while featuring for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The forward was forced off after injury in the first half, as his side rallied to secure a 2-2 draw against Ghana in their second game at the competition.
The Pharaohs will complete their group fixtures later on Monday night when they face Cape Verde in Abidjan, with their qualification hanging in the balance.
Egypt still hopes that Salah can play a role in the tournament if they advance to the latter stages.
“We are hoping to catch him in the semi-finals of the Africa Nations Cup in case of qualification,” the EFA said in a statement.
Liverpool have coped well without their star man, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points by crushing Bournemouth 4-0 on Sunday.
