The army has also released a statement putting the number of Egyptian soldiers and militants killed to 14 in a confrontation in Central Sinai on Saturday.

April 2017 was the first time Egypt imposed the current state of emergency after two church bombings killed at least 45 people. It was extended in July and again in October then January.
The country has long faced an Islamic State insurgency in the remote North Sinai region that has killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen and further expanded to include attacks on civilians.
