ECOWAS leaders meets in Abuja to discuss investment in mining

Read < 1 minute

Mineral rich members from the west African economic block ECOWAS are meeting in Nigerian capital Abuja to cement partnership in order to boost earnings from the industry.

The event is coming ahead of ECONEC’s Needs Assessment and Solidarity Missions to Sierra Leone and Liberia, which are due to hold crucial elections.

The Abuja meeting, the first by the five-member board since its election at ECONEC’s Fifth Biennial General Assembly meeting in Cotonou, Benin Republic, last April, will adopt the body’s Action Plan and activities for 2017-2019 and discuss details of the missions to Sierra Leone and Liberia.

The region poses vast deposit of minerals yet seems to have gained very little from the industry.
