East African mobile call rates drop
Telecoms operators in East Africa say there has been a general drop in mobile call rates across the region, but there are concerns this isn’t being passed on to consumers.
Operators in the region are now drawing up strategies to harmonize a one network area across all regions.
The industry is already laying out strategies to expand the one area network across the region. This will include data and mobile money services. It’s hoped it will result in lower costs for subscribers.
Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda and Rwanda are expected to be the first countries in the region to benefit from the initiative. Tanzania is still in the final stages of joining the East African One Network Area.
