Kenyan boxing fans were among those tuning in to watch the world’s most storied sporting events of the weekend.

But even as they cheered on Pacquiao or Mayweather the sport has not given fans anything to cheer about locally.

This week a documentary depicting the state of boxing in Kenya was released.

The film titled the last fight tells of the struggles boxers in the country face in their quest for international recognition.

It follows boxers from two popular gyms in the country.

In the 70s and 80s Kenya was a regional powerhouse in the sport even producing Africa’s sole Olympic gold medallist in the sport in 1988.

Today poor management and lack of sponsors has left many boxers unable to fulfil their dreams of making it in the professional arena.

The documentary hopes that by bringing some of these challenges to light then the government will take action and save the sport.
