Despite challenges, DR Congo nurses charge on in fight against diseases
Nurses in the Democratic Republic of Congo have faced many challenges in their brave efforts to stop the spread of epidemics like Ebola, measles and COVID-19.
In the course of their work, some of them have lost their lives to those infectious diseases while others have been killed by militia groups in the country’s troubled Eastern Region.
On Tuesday May 12, the world marks the International Nurses Day to recognize the contributions of such nurses to the society.
This year’s celebrations are expected to be centered on appreciation of the health workers for their efforts in the fight against COVI-19.
Nurses have been at the frontline of the battle against the disease globally and have had to put their lives at risk to stop its spread.
COVID-19 has infected close to 4.2 million people around the world and killed over 286,000, according to data from the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.
