A yet-to-be-identified disease in DR Congo has killed at least 130 people, the MONUSCO-backed Radio Okapi reported on Thursday.
The disease is affecting the Panzi area of Kwango province in the southwestern DR Congo.
The provincial health minister, Apollinaire Yumba Tiabakwau, reported that approximately 382 people exhibited symptoms.
These included fever, headache, breathing difficulty, and anemia.
On the same day, DR Congo Health Minister Roger Kamba announced, “We are on maximum alert.”
Provincial authorities have dispatched a team of epidemiology experts to investigate the disease’s nature and potential treatments. Meanwhile, health officials have urged the public to avoid mass gatherings as a precautionary measure.
