Construction of another rehab centre kicks off in Somalia
Ex-Militants in Somalia are finding a second chance to rebuild their lives.
The construction of another rehabilitation center has kicked off in Kismaayo. It’s part of the government’s National Programme for the Treatment and Handling of Disengaged Combatants.
The foundation stone of the building was jointly placed at the construction center by the regional commissioner of Kismayo town Abdirashid Gooni and the director general of the department of militant rehabilitation in the Ministry of Security of the federal republic of Somalia Mr. Maalig Abdalla.
The center will be mainly built for the rehabilitation of the Al-Shabab militants who willingly surrender themselves to the Somali government.
This center is located at the former premises of the Somali national marine force in Kismayo, and it was destroyed during the fights of the civil war.
“This rehabilitation center will take immense role in changing the ill ideology of the extremists, and I am sure will lure many of them in the center” said commissioner Gooni.
The Al-Shabab militants are widely known to brainwash the Somali youths and persuade them into their network, and center is to call back them from their current positions.
