China’s 20th Battalion peacekeeping force units stationed in the Democratic Republic of Congo has successfully passed the United Nations equipment inspection tests.

This is the fourth inspection since China entered its mission in the area.

Vehicles, weapons, ammunition, food, medical equipment and facilities were all thoroughly inspected to verify that all the military items met all the requirements of the United Nations.

Chinese troops have been involved in the peacekeeping mission in the DR Congo, which has been dogged by political instability since 2015.

Violence in the country increased in December 2016 after President Joseph Kabila failed to step down at the end of his mandate.

The country’s electoral body said it was not able to conduct elections in November as scheduled due to logistical issues.

Opposition leaders in the country however dismissed those claims saying that was a ploy by President Kabila to cling on to power.

Chinese troops are also deployed in troubled South Sudan and Mali.
