China, Tunisia eye all-round cooperation

China is ready to consolidate mutual political trust and deepen cooperation in various fields with Tunisia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday during a meeting with Tunisian President Kais Saied in Tunis, capital of Tunisia.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, is visiting Egypt, Tunisia, Togo and Cote d’Ivoire from January 13 to 18.

Wang told Saied that China firmly supports Tunisia in safeguarding its sovereign independence and national dignity.

China is willing to strengthen coordination with Tunisia and promote an equal and orderly global multipolarity and economic globalization that benefits all, he said.

Saied and Wang both said they oppose unipolar hegemony and interference in other’s internal affairs, according to a statement from China’s Foreign Ministry.

The Tunisian president said his country will continue to participate in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and is committed to the one-China principle and the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758, according to the statement.

Wang also met with Tunisian Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar on Monday, and both said they expected greater development in bilateral ties as this year marks the 60th anniversary of China and Tunisia establishing diplomatic relations.

According to the Foreign Ministry statement, both sides agreed to strengthen high-level exchanges and expand all-round cooperation.

China and Tunisia expressed readiness to strengthen coordination, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries as well as the principle of non-interference in internal affairs.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Palestine-Israel conflict, and expressed joint support for the Palestinian people in pursuing the just cause of restoring their lawful national rights.
