One of China’s most popular talk shows has come to Africa. The special edition of Voice was recorded in Nairobi, and showcases cultural, scientific, and infrastructure cooperation between China and Kenya — to mark the five year anniversary of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
Hosted by China Central television’s Sa Beining, the show was recorded in the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology with its first guest being China’s ambassador to Kenya, Sun Baohong.
She highlighted the exchanges between different cultures, especially between China and Africa as well as the long history the two have shared over the centuries.
According to Sun Baohong, China’s opening up to the world is offering a new beginning for harmonious development for humankind.
“We all know that diversity is the spice of culture. Only by exchanges and learning from each other, can different civilizations co-exist. Only by exchanges, can civilizations maintain vitality. Only by learning from each other, can civilizations maintain good quality. Only by co-existing, can civilizations have variety. Even in the past, exchanges and cooperation between China and Africa have been leading the way in the world. The Chinese people have brought kindness and friendship to Africa, and the African people have returned the same. On that, I have lots of good stories to share. ”
The ambassador has further urged the peoples of China and Africa to join together to build a world where cultures can exist in peace, harmony, and prosperity.
The second episode of the talk show features a senior Chinese botanist, Mr. Hong Deyuan who is an academician with the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He spoke of his research on China and Africa’s ecological systems, saying plants are the most important basis of an eco-system.
“I can see that African young people and China’s young people share similar thoughts. Many African young people have greatly contributed to international research on bio diversity and Africa’s environmental protection. This is something we can learn from.”
His colleagues have also hailed the talk show as a great opportunity to enhance exchanges and cooperation.
“This show highlights China-Kenya, China-Africa cooperation in scientific research. It would play an important part in human exchanges, and provide better opportunities for common development. We aim to provide support to the Belt and Road initiative in terms of Science and technology. We are providing China’s solutions to Africa to tackle agricultural and environmental issues.
The third episode of this special talk show is about China-Africa cooperation in the field of infrastructure.
The show will air in September as Beijing hosts African leaders for the Forum on China Africa Cooperation.
