At least 2 people were killed, and 20 injured, after a car crashed into a crowd in Monrovia, celebrating the victory of Liberia’s President-elect Joseph Boakai.

A security guard for Boakai’s Unity Party, says he motioned for the car to stop. The driver then slammed into the crowd while turning off his headlights.

Police are investigating the incident. Representatives for Boakai’s Unity Party stated they thought it was a planned action, but authorities have not made any conclusion at this time. They did say that the driver left the scene.

Social media posts featured videos of injured individuals lying on the ground, some of whom were being treated for injuries.
