The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is scheduled to hold presidential elections in Morocco in March next year.
“The CAF Elective General Assembly 2021 is to be held on 12 March 2021 in Rabat, Morocco,” CAF said in a statement.
CAF also released a timeline of events leading up to the elections. Interested individuals will be allowed to submit their candidature between September 11 and November 12.
On January 11, CAF is expected to communicate the names of the successful candidates to all the national associations ahead of the vote in March.
CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has so far refused to confirm whether he will run for another term.
“I am finalising with my team. Such a position in society in a continent is not about personal ambition, it is a commitment that is sought after by different interest groups,” Ahmed told the BBC.
In July, the BBC reported that Ahmad was undecided about running for a second term in office.
Ahmad, CAF’s seventh president, was elected in March 2017 after defeating long-serving president Issa Hayatou, who had been in office for 29 years. He took over with a promise to modernise the confederation and make it more transparent.
